Day one, in the right order
Ingredients in Square → ingredient costs set → yield items created → build two or three recipes → first worklist → go live on the iPad.
The order matters. Recipes can only use ingredients that already exist in Square, and costing only works once those ingredients have costs. Get those two foundations in place first and recipe building goes quickly.
- All ingredients exist in Square (bulk-create them through Square's import if you have many).
- Ingredient costs are set — automatic if
InTrac invoices are being reconciled, otherwise entered by hand. - A yield item exists in Square for each finished product you intend to make.
The tools that do the heavy lifting
Common questions
Can I copy an existing recipe as a starting point?
Duplicating and editing is the quickest way to build variants, such as a family size alongside a single.
A supplier switch changed an ingredient in forty recipes.
One Find & Replace pass handles it, then check Recipe Costs Update for the margin impact.
